It is one of Children First's greatest concerns that high standards are met in children's wards when examining and treating sick children and expecting mothers. This is often only made possible through the funding and provision of medical equipment, which in our countries is available as standard, but which in poor countries is only affordable in the rarest of all cases.

For example, in 2004 we were able to provide urgently needed medical equipment to the maternity ward at the hospital in Gheorgheni.

  • an amnioscope (vital for the examination of amniotic fluid in the case of high-risk pregnancies)
  • a colposcope (a large, electric microscope, used for examining the outer portion of the cervix in pregnant women)
  • a CTG-device (for monitoring the heart rate of a fetus as well as the pregnant mother's contractions)
  • an ECG-device
