The rooms and wards of hospitals in poor countries are often found to be in desolate conditions. They tend more to resemble a musty storeroom than a place in which young patients are able to feel well. The kitchens, where the children's food is prepared, are often found to be in intolerable conditions with mouldy walls and crumbling plaster. The patients, who are already in a state of bad health, often contract additional illnesses as a result of these unhygienic conditions.
Children First has set itself the goal of improving such conditions.
As an example, Children First funded the renovation of the kitchen and rooms in the children's ward of the hospital in Gheorgheni. After the renovation work was finished, the rooms and patient wards gleamed with a new warmth and brightness.
