With the so-called “Food Programme” poor families with a large number of children and with mostly unemployed parents, are guaranteed a fast-track aid plan in order to survive.

Every family receives 20 Euros per child every month, up to a maximum of 100 Euros per month. This financial support is “paid in” to a local grocery store by our volunteer helper Mr. Paal. The children concerned and their parents are then able to obtain basic foods and fruit for themselves.

The stores agree not to give either cigarettes or alcohol to the recipients, and a record is additionally kept of exactly what groceries are bought. At regular intervals several times per month our locally based assistant runs checks on the correct day-to-day implementation of the food programme.

There are currently around 50 families in Gheorgheni and the surrounding villages who are integrated in this programme. This represents average financial support of around EUR 850 per year for each family involved.
