At the end of July 2005 our chairperson Sylvia Eibl handed over personally three state of the art incubators, with a total value of 50,000 euros, to the "Holy Family Hospital" in Bethlehem, Palestine.
Sylvia Eibl reacted immediately to a public "call for help" from the hospital's director, the pediatrician Dr. Jaques Keutgen, and ordered in consultation with Dr. Keutgen the urgently required incubators from the Germany manufacturer of medical equipment, Dräger. The incubators were handed over and installed just in time, as a few days earlier quadruplets had been born, each with a weight at birth of 900 - 1000 grams, and had to share a total of two incubators.
The incubators had hardly been installed when the next unexpected set of quads was born, with an average weight of 700 - 800 grams. All of the eight quads are astonishingly well, not least due to the incubators arriving in time and thus enabling the premature babies to be placed in them immediately after birth.
Our chairperson gained many impressions during her five day trip and took a great number of photos. Some of them are shown here. |
