Children First organises and finances medical treatment for children and adolescents who have no chance of seeking medical aid because of their poverty-stricken circumstances. In October 2006, Children First arranged for Muhammad’s transfer from Karachi, Pakistan to Athens for a corneal transplant, and organised and funded the expensive operation. When Muhammad refused to give in to sexual abuse by one of his teachers, the teacher “punished” him by throwing acid in his face and over his body. This simply barbaric attack has left the boy blind and horribly disfigured. Now, four years later and thanks to help from Children First, 17-year old Muhammad has regained 35-40% of the sight in his right eye after a complex corneal transplant by Dr. Kanellopoulos at the Laser Vision Institute in Athens.
